Catharine Pendrel
Pan-American Games Gold Medalist, 2007

Despite only four years at the elite level, Pendrel has cemented her status as a favorite to make the 2008 Canadian Olympic Team after a breakthrough ride at the 2007 World Mountain Bike Championships, where she finished sixth. Catharine grew up on a horse farm in New Brunswick and was quite the horsewoman until her brother Geoff introduced her to mountain biking during her senior year in high school. She enjoys Thai food, sushi and anything chocolate — a perfect fit with the LUNA squad.

A few random questions...

Any pre-race routines?
"The night before a race I always do a mental run-through of a lap of the course in my mind and how I want to ride it. One time I dozed off three times before I finished a lap, but I had my first World Cup top-15 the next day."

What inspires you?
"People who work really hard for their own goals and still find time to help others meet theirs. The Olympics."

Any unconventional pre-race quirks?
"I'm possessive about bananas and need enough in my room to get me through a race weekend... they used to have to be diced up on a peanut butter bagel, but I'm branching out."

What is your secret to having a good race?
"Keeping others away from my bananas!"

Anything else?
"Being a part of Team LUNA is an incredible opportunity to progress as a racer with excellent teammates, support and, yes, lots of LUNA Bars. This is an exciting challenge and great motivator for 2008."
