Danelle Kabush
2x XTERRA World Championship medalist

A former competitive runner for the University of Washington and an avid cross-country skier, Kabush was second at the 2006 XTERRA World Championships and brings added depth to LUNA's pro XTERRA squad. Although she will focus primarily on XTERRA, Danelle will also compete in selected mountain bike events including the Sea Otter Classic and other championship races. Danelle took 2007 off to have her first, and now rapidly growing child, Zoe.

A few random questions...

What inspires you?
"This year, my baby daughter is my biggest inspiration — she reminds me to find joy in the small things and truly live in the present moment — something we as adults and especially as competitive athletes can forget the importance of at times."

What's the most embarrassing thing to happen to you at a race?
"In my one of my first XTERRA races, I got ahead of myself during the swim/bike transition... I went to leap up onto my bike but missed the seat and landed on my back tire right in front of the crowd."

What is your single most memorable race experience?
"XTERRA Hawaii where I swallowed salt water while swimming with giant turtles, tumbled off my bike onto sharp lava rock, then scorched my feet running over white-hot sand."

What is your favorite LUNA flavor?
"The new Berry Almond LUNA bar is the best — it's tangy and delicious, and I can feel all the antioxidants hard at work doing whatever it is that antioxidants do..."

Anything to add?
"Very few people believe it's possible to successfully balance an athletic career with full-time Doctorate studies, a career as a mental training consultant, and raising a child, but with LUNA's support I know I will be able to race at the highest level in XTERRA once again."
