Shonny Vanlandingham
Most successful U.S. National Series racer in history

With 15 NORBA National race wins and three NORBA Series Championship titles, Vanlandingham is the most successful rider in NORBA history-man or woman. For 2008, she's tackling a new challenge and will compete primarily on the XTERRA off-road triathlon circuit. Shonny has always had an interest in the "triathlon" side of mountain biking and XTERRA — with its swims in shark-infested waters, mountain bike rides beneath jungle canopies teeming with snakes and trail runs on molten lava — should suit her fine. She will also race a few mountain bike events, including defending her National Marathon Championship title, the Sea Otter Classic and a few national series contests.

Shonny spends the off-season in Captain Cook, Hawaii cultivating coffee to fuel her growing caffeine addiction.

A few random questions...

Any pre-race superstitions?
"I really don't believe in superstitions, but routinely I like to have (Team Manager) Waldek 'slap a bit of oil' on the legs before the start... makes you feel fast when your legs are shiny."

Who or what inspires you?
"Ka maika'i o ka 'aina a me' pau hana. Aloha."

Anything to add?
"I enjoy being a part of a team that contributes to a bigger cause such as the Breast Cancer Fund and one that promotes women's health and fitness through the LUNA Ambassador program."
